Istanbul Kurdish Institute has published a new “Dictionary of Kurdish Proverbs”. This dictionarry which was prepared by Mehmet Oncu contains more than 5000 Kurdish proeverbs. As it is known proverbs are part of every spoken language and folk literature, originating in oral tradition. Often a proverb is found with variations in many different parts of the world and some proverbs have a special story. If you like to understand the basis of language, culture and psychology of a soceity you have to look into their folk literature; especially their idioms and proverbs.
For Kurdish Institute of Istanbul to publish such materials is very important, because it is a duity to collect every parts of Kurdish folk literature and to save all of them from assimilation. Therefore we published this dictionary and we present it to the Kurdish people and all the people who like to learn the Kurdish language.
